Continuing with their expression series programme, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the next in line will be held on October 2 to celebrate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. Open for students of the CBSE board, they will be required to submit an essay, a poem or a drawing on any of the three topics - 'Ten things I learnt from the life and actions of Mahatma Gandhi', 'Mahatma Gandhi and his education philosophy' and 'Mahatma Gandhi: the apostle of peace and non-violence'. 

"To pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, CBSE announces an expression series on his birthday on October 2," read the circular issued by D T Sudharsan Rao, CBSE joint secretary and in-charge (academic and training). 



Since October 2 is a public holiday, participation in the series has been made voluntary by authorities. 

The competitions will be held under three categories: Classes I to V, Classes VI to VIII and Classes IX to XII. The best 36 entries in each category will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,500, besides one certificate of merit and participation to each student. Students will be able to participate through respective schools or independently send their entries online via . Selected students will be contacted via telephone. CBSE officials also said that plagiarism check will be performed and any entry considered copied will result in disqualification.

All Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country have been asked to follow the NCERT syllabus on yoga education and create awareness on a "priority" basis about the benefits of yoga among the students.

HRD Ministry Smriti Irani had in June this year released course material and syllabus for yoga designed by NCERT for classes VI-X and had also introduced yoga as a training module in teacher education programmes.

"Syllabus prescribed by NCERT should be followed by all the schools" and "creating awareness among the students about the benefits of Yoga should be given priority," the annual KV deputy commissioners conference held in July this year has resolved.

The meeting also decided to set up language labs at schools utilising existing infrastructure to hone language skills of students and especially the primary school teachers.

Short duration training programmes exclusively for enhancing communication of Principals would also be organised, said the minutes of the meeting.

To ensure better performance, the meeting decided that every region should fix an achievable target for the Board result for the session 2015-16 -- higher than that achieved in the session 2014-15 -- and also fix a target for each of the schools under their jurisdiction.

All the Regions should prepare a workable strategy for their schools for achieving the set target and need based training would be organised by the regions for improving the result in subjects such as Mathematics, Economics, Accountancy, Business studies.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan would review the existing CCE pattern being followed in Classes I to VIII with a view to strengthen it.

Illustrious alumni from the schools have also been invited to involved in interacting with the students and enriching them.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with the India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) has initiated a week-long creative expression contest from September 21-28.

The contest is open to students of CBSE-affiliated schools across the country. Students can submit essays, poems or drawings.

A circular in this regard was issued by DT Sudharsan Rao, CBSE joint secretary and in-charge (academic and training).

"The Central Board of Secondary Education in collaboration with the India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS), Ministry of External Affairs, organizes Creative Expression Contest," read the circular.

The contest will be conducted under three categories -- Classes I to V, Classes VI to VIII and Classes IX to XII. The best 36 entries in each category will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,500, besides a certificate of merit and a certificate of participation to each student.

"The schools shall conduct the competition and select the best entry in each category for submission to the respective regional offices of CBSE. Each regional office will select five best entries in each category and submit them to the joint secretary and in-charge (academic & training), CBSE," the documents further read.
