1.  The government on Friday announced an overhaul of public sector banks and for the first time since nationalization drafted executives from the private sector to run at least two state-run lenders. The move is part of a strategy to professionalize bank boards and improve the performance of government-controlled banks that account for 70% of the deposits and loans extended by banks. 

2.   This is the highest monthly earning reported by AP after the state bifurcation. During the last 14 months, the state has been reporting a modest tax income of about Rs 3,400 crore a month. Improved commercial tax collection has spurred the overall tax revenues of the state. AP is now, the fastest growing economy among the southern states.

3.   Facing common threat from overseas cyber attacks, India and the US on Friday decided to join hands in combating cyber crime that would not only help them address these challenges, but also advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious goal of a digital India. 

4.   Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious project to promote sanitation and hygiene across the country — Swachh Bharat Abhiyan — has had its first brush with success. According to a survey, the findings of which have been shared exclusively with TOI, this has resulted in an 11% increase in school attendance in the past one year.PM Modi's speech on August 15 last year had brought up the critical issue of toilets, and the need to end open defecation in the country. This led to a surge in efforts by India Inc, NGOs and various ministries to provide toilets and other basic sanitation facilities.
