1. At the end of another engrossing day at the SSC, India find themselves seven wickets away from achieving just their second Test series win on Sri Lankan soil, and first away from home in more than four years. Set a huge target of 386, Sri Lanka slumped to 21/3 in the face of a hostile spell from Ishant Sharma, who took his match tally to seven wickets, and by stumps had reached some sort of stability at 67/3. 

2.  Valentino Rossi of Italy moved to the top of the world championship standings with his fourth victory of the season when he triumphed in the British MotoGP at Silverstone on Sunday. 

3.  Jason Day romped to a six-stroke victory in the Barclays on Sunday to seize the lead in the US PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoff chase.

4.  Russian third seed Maria Sharapova withdrew from the US Open on Sunday with a right leg injury, easing the path to a calendar-year Grand Slam for top-ranked Serena Williams.
