 1.  Seventy doctors and medical students accused in the Vyapam scam and lodged in Gwalior Central Jail have in a letter requested the President to allow them to commit suicide, saying they have been behind bars for long and their "future is dark". They alleged they are victims of "judicial disparity".

 2.  Over 30 years after renowned musician Zubin Mehta and his troupe walked out of government-run Ashok Hotel on finding cockroaches in their rooms, Air India's senior most pilots have now revolted against the airline's decision to put them up at the ITDC hotel in Delhi.

 3.  The need for education and employment for Muslims was highlighted on Saturday at RSS-backed conference of ulemas here, which also cautioned the people of the community against being used to "boost" political ambitions of a handful leaders.

 4.   Six people have been detained from Jammu & Kashmir's Pulwama and Kulgam districts for allegedly helping captured Pakistani terrorist, Naved. Sources identified three of the six detainees as Javaid Wani, his brother, Fayaz Wani, and Javaid Ahmed Parray. The identity of the rest of the suspects was not immediately known.

 7.   Bangladesh police today launched a massive hunt to nab the killers of secular blogger Niloy Chakrabarty Neel whose body bore around 14 hack wounds, four of which were on the neck.

 8.  A Rwandan soldier serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic shot dead four Rwandan troops and wounded eight others on Saturday before committing suicide, according to the Rwandan defence ministry.

 9.  A wave of attacks on Afghan army, police and US special forces in Kabul on Friday killed at least 50 people and wounded hundreds, dimming hopes that the Taliban might be weakened by a leadership struggle after their longtime leader's death.

10.  Acknowledging India's "substantial sacrifice" in backing the sanctions regime against Iran, the White House has again warned that if the Republican-controlled Congress unilaterally kills the Iran nuclear deal, it would greatly damage America's standing.

11. Calling for a mass movement to promote organ donations across the country and save lives, Union health minister JP Nadda on Saturday said the government would take steps within a week to develop a policy mechanism and address the institutional gaps. The act of giving life, he said, should be turned into a year-round movement.

12. England defeated Australia by an innings and 78 runs on the third day of the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday to take an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.Victory saw England regain the Ashes after they were whitewashed 5-0 in Australia in 2013/14.

13. Australia captain Michael Clarke said on Saturday he would retire from international cricket after the fifth Ashes Test against England at The Oval later this month.The 34-year-old Clarke made his announcement after England completed a crushing innings and 78 run victory over Australia in the fourth Test at Trent Bridge to take an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match Ashes series.

14. Indian cricketers got much-needed match practice as they enjoyed an upper hand on all three days against Sri Lanka Board President's XI in the tour opener that ended in a tame draw here on Saturday. While the batsmen did not exactly set the stage on fire in the second innings getting all out for 180 but the bowlers kept the pressure, restricting hosts to 200 for six in 54 overs as they chased an unachievable victory target of 411 runs.
