Current News 29-August-2015

1.  As many as one lakh families of farmers in the state opted out of agriculture, their sole profession, in the last five years, according to the latest agriculture Census figures. 

2.  Shying away from a blanket ban on death penalty the Law Commission is likely to recommend "gradual" abolition in all cases, except terror-related ones, as practiced in countries like the United Kingdom.

3. The government is working on an ordinance to amend the Citizenship Act to grant citizenship to "persecuted" Hindu refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

4.  A day after Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti activist Hardik Patel hailed Shiv Sena ideologue Bal Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, JD(U) and RJD on Friday did a U-turn by distancing themselves from the PAAS agitation.
