Current News 21-August-2015

1.  Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras resigned on Thursday, hoping to strengthen his hold on power in snap elections after seven months in office in which he fought Greece's creditors for a better bailout deal but had to cave in. Tsipras submitted his resignation to President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and asked for the earliest possible election date. 

2.  Central Administrative Tribunal has come to the rescue of those civil services aspirants who applied but did not take the premilinary examination in 2011 due to the introduction of CSAT, by asking UPSC to provisionally allow them an additional attempt this year. 

3.  Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan on Thursday said that real estate prices need to come down in order to ease lending norms for home loans. The governor's comments come at a time when unsold housing stocks are at a two-year-high and developers continue to hold on to prices despite a sharp fall in transactions. 

4.  For smooth implementation of the ambitious 'Housing-for-All' scheme, the Centre has proposed to decentralize the process by involving state governments in the planning and decision-making process. 

5. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will ask Imams of mosques to educate Muslims about attacks on Islamic beliefs and how to counter them by taking up such issues in their sermons before Friday prayers.
